Oil on canvas impressionist style landscape painting by German artist Paul Ernst Wilke b.1891 - d.1971.
1913-14 studied at the art school in Bielefeld, 1914-15 in Dusseldorf. 1915-16 military service and hospital stay in Berlin, the first studies at the School of Applied Arts in Charlottenburg. 1916-18 Studies at the Bremen School of Applied Arts with Professors Kleinhempel and Müller-Scheeßel. 1918-21 continue studying in Berlin at the Academy of Fine Arts with Professors process and mirror as well as a studio student of Hans Baluschek. After that, a freelance painter in Bremerhaven, temporarily resident in Norderney and Helgoland, 1925-29 in Bremen, 1930 in Debstedt, 1931-39 in Hamburg, then in Worpswede, since 1954 at the home of Fritz Mackensen. From 1948 a second studio in Bremerhaven at the old outer harbor. Study trips to Italy, Holland, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, France, Iceland. A member of the North German Federation of Artists and BBK Bremen.
Exhibitions in Hamburg, Bremen, Bremerhaven, Worpswede. Mainly marine and landscape painting in the tradition of French and German Impressionists, including cityscapes, rare still lifes and portraits. 1984 Foundation of "Freundeskreis Paul Enst Wilke eV" to prevent the studio Wilkes from being torn down. What remains next to his studio, are the many vivid memories of the likeable, attractive bon vivant with the "look like Gary Cooper, always a little toward the sun. He was obsessed with painting, the Old Port and painted every day, even at night when the lights were reflected like pearls in the water. the Weser, the shipyards, all were his motives infinitely beloved "(H.
