20th Century Philip S. Read (1927-2000) Acrylic on Canvas Painting titled "Pavlova". Very large (60 x 72), making it a sizable and impactful work. Painting likely depicts Anna Pavlova, the iconic Russian prima ballerina whose performances captivated audiences around the world. Pavlova was known for her grace and her portrayal of the "Dying Swan," a role that became synonymous with her name. The piece may be a tribute to her legendary status in the world of ballet, encapsulated both her elegance and the powerful emotion she conveyed through dance. Read's style combined portraiture with abstraction and his use of acrylics allowed him to achieve color contrasts, giving the piece both depth and vibrancy.
