"Red Fury" Oil on Canvas with Backlighting by Artist Ricardo Casado Dated 2018

About the Item

"Red Fury" Oil on Canvas with Backlighting by Artist Ricardo Casado Dated 2018 Offered for sale is a large oil on canvas titled "Red Fury" by Cuban American artist Ricardo Casado signed twice and dated 2018. As with all of Casado's unique work, this painting can be viewed with or without the LED backlight which transforms the image by emphasizing brush strokes and enhancing the intensity of the colors of the oil paint. The stretched canvas is wired and ready to hang and includes the transformer for the back-lighting which can be hard wired or plugged into an electrical outlet. Casado was born in 1961 in the Havana neighborhood of Luyano. While growing up in his grandfather's carpentry workroom, which had been adapted as living quarters, he found a way to see the environment in a totally different way. The old wooden roof leaked as it rained, creating incredible images that looked like natural artwork. This experience became his first source of artistic inspiration. The improvised cardboard walls of his house became his first medium to paint on. This graffiti showed his relatives and friends the skills of his budding artistic talent. Times were difficult and consequently, it was hard to provide Ricardo with materials for his art. At the age of 12, he felt compelled to hop on a bus and go to San Alejandro, the best school for Fine Arts studies in Cuba. He was inspired and could not wait to tell his parents of his secret plans to attend the school. His excitement was short lived as his parents reluctantly told him there was no way they could arrange for transportation to and from the school. His only other choice was to enroll in The Pedagogical School of Havana. His first studies included plastic arts and other different techniques. He was fortunate to be tutored by one of their excellent instructors who ironically had graduated from San Alejandro. They are credited with introducing him to the medium of oil on canvas. That, in turn, was the catalyst for Ricardo to be able to paint the vibrant colors that he saw throughout Cuba’s tropical paradise.     In 2004 at the age of 44, Ricardo immigrated to the United States and settled in the city of Jacksonville, Florida. He immediately sought to continue his creative passion as a plastic artist. Being resourceful, Casado ingeniously discovered in his kitchen there was a treasure Trove of utensils he could use as tools in his paintings that would give him textures he was never able to achieve before. As if incorporating drawing, color and textures were not enough to create amazing art, Casado became enthralled with the idea of introducing light into his work. The combination of these four elements distinguish Casado to be a master of vibrant translucent art    All of Casado’s works have distinctive merit on their own and they become more impactful when cleverly backlit as they emit a glow and luminosity that is unparalleled in any other artist’s work. This effect is achieved not only through lights artfully placed on the back of the painting but by the type of paint and application to the canvas. The result yields two distinct colorations, one in natural light and another when backlit. He is a Pioneer with this technique in the world of art. His artistry includes murals which are the result of a mixture of memories, experiences, creativity and innovative techniques. Recognized as the artist of light, palpable textures, and harmonious palettes, Casado takes the viewer from a two-dimensional journey into the soul of his creative spirit. The primary image shows two views of this painting both lit and unlit.

  • Laurent Proneur Abstract Oil Painting on Canvas, French American Artist
    By Laurent Proneur
    Located in Miami, FL
Laurent Proneur Abstract Oil Painting on Canvas, French American Artist Offered for sale is an abstract oil painting on canvas by the French-American artist Laurent Proneur (b.1969-). The painting is bold and dramatic and is artist-signed in the lower right corner. The artist is a French-born American painter and well-known street artist who describes his paintings and other works as a “neoteric experiment in fine art graffiti.” Raised in a family of circus performers, the visual artist and music producer has been surrounded by creativity since he was a child. Proneur trained as an acrobat and juggler prior to his teenage years, so that he might join his family members as they traveled to perform in circuses all over Europe. It wasn’t long before Proneur would discover graffiti on the streets of Paris. Proneur eventually adopted the subversive art form as a way for him to express himself and during the mid-1980s began tagging alongside widely known street artists such as Jonone 156 and Futura 2000 — names he cites as influences today alongside the likes of Jackson Pollock and Pablo Picasso. As street art has long been part of the hip hop culture in the United States, rap music and production also became integral to Proneur’s life. During the 1990s, he established an independent production company, wrote and produced songs for himself and other artists, and worked with labels such as Sony and BMG. Proneur continued to create works of street art over the years, gaining recognition among the other active artists in France and earning acclaim in a book published by Paris Tonkar magazine, a publication that covers street art in Europe. He studied at the Beaux-Arts de Paris for three years and now works out of his studio in Los Angeles, California. In 2017, Proneur collaborated with the German bicycle company Haibike to help raise funds for the youth mountain biking programs of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association. The artist has had group and solo exhibitions at Gallery Montaigne, Terrell Moore...
