"Sailing the Old Florida Coast, " Painting w/ Spanish Ship & Egret, Blue & Red
About the Item
Comparable to the best of N. C. Wyeth's great illustration paintings, this color-saturated and highly atmospheric depiction of an old Spanish ship along the Florida coast, with clouds piled up high in the distance and a snowy egret in the foreground, was painted by Peter Koch in the 1920s or 1930s. Koch's palette is rich and gorgeous, including golds and purples in the ship's sails, candy apple red and coral in the ship's reflection in the water, and gorgeous cobalts and greens in the clouds behind. Koch was a Midwest artist who was born in Ohio and worked in Chicago, but became known for depicting Spanish ships and other scenes from old Florida. The textured, atmospheric quality of the paint is enhanced because the artist painted on masonite. (Dimensions include frame).
