About the Item

Stunning set of four two-sided painted wood panels that were once a folding screen or room divider. The Italian panels feature parcel gilt framed scenes embellished with Chinese motifs in the Chinoiserie taste or orientalism aesthetic. The gilt paintings depict rococo style scrolling foliate and urn motifs with Asian figures. The paintings have an intentionally aged patina on the finish to commensurate age and use. The gilt paintings and gilt framed borders stand out boldly against a French Napoleon green background. The opposite side appears to have been added later and features a floral blooming tree with white flowers over a dramatic scarlet red background. The last panel has Asian script on the right bottom. The panels installed end to end or flat as a folding screen measure over 6 feet wide. The original hardware is not included. Made in the manner and style of Chinoiserie painted wallpaper panels from the Chinoiserie period of the late 19th century Europe with heavy French influence. Sold as a set of four.
