This captivating oil on artist board by Edvins E. Strautmanis is a testament to the artist's dynamic and expressive style. Strautmanis, a noted figure in the American Postwar and Contemporary art scene, was born in Latvia in 1933 and immigrated to the United States in 1950.
After graduating from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Strautmanis began his artistic journey in the mid-1960s. Initially exploring hard-edge painting, sculpture, and monotype, he later gravitated towards the vibrant and dynamic New York art scene. In 1971, he made the move to the East Coast, following in the footsteps of influential artists like Kline, DeKooning, and Pollock, who had significantly shaped the Abstract Expressionist movement.
This work is signed and dated to lower center 'E. Strautmanis 87' on the front. Signed and dated to verso 'E. Strautmanis 87' . This particular work highlights influences of Franz Kline in particular, the artist's mature style. The bold brushstrokes, vibrant colors, and dynamic composition create a visually striking and emotionally resonant piece. Strautmanis's ability to convey depth and movement through his use of light and shadow is evident in this work.
