Walter Wohlschlegel Vintage German Abstract Modern Art Painting, c.1970s
About the Item
Informal abstract modernist painting signed by German artist Walter Wohlschlegel (1907-1999). Painted circa 1970s, this piece is untitled and is painted on hardboard. Here Wohlschlegel creates an interesting color / colour play, most notably, the flat swirls of colors of pastel crème, pink, green, banana yellow and sky blue. There is something very 'Pop Art' about this composition and we really love his work. This piece reminds us of some works by Andy Warhol.
Wohlschlegel painted from the 1930s right up until the late 1990s with only a short break to serve as a soldier in Greece during the Second World War. Two years after his return he moved to settle in Freiburg in south West Germany, close to the French border. During this time he moved to the informal style as seen here.
The painting is lovely but does require a light clean - such work is actually quite simple and not expensive to have done by a professional.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading. The painting has some small marks from being stored over the years - these can be cleaned off with the right treatment. There is some slight wear to the age of the painting where the hardboard has lifted out of the wooden frame.
