About

An open-air museum comprised of scores of vintage abandon trucks, cars, buses, motorcycles, tractors, fire engines, antique tools, mining equipment, antiquated buildings, vintage signs, a number of resident animals, and a saw mill, the Gold King Mine Museum and Ghost Town was founded in 1982 by Don Robertson. In the 1890s the site was the location of a copper mine that struck gold rather than copper and was a thriving community until the mine ran out of gold. 1930s and 1940s cars and trucks of every color are in abundance throughout the grounds which is a paradise for adventuresome travelers, gearheads, and photographers. Under the rest room sign in this photograph is the front-end of a late 1940s Studebaker M Series pickup truck. Don, Robertson, died at the age of 73 on October 17, 2016. Currently owned and operated by Robertson’s step-daughter and her husband, the Gold King Mine remains open and a popular attraction.
