Historical Lithographic Poster of the exhibition Drawings by Picasso. Circa 1961

About the Item

Historical poster of the exhibition "Gaspar Room. Drawings by Picasso. January-February 1961". Manufactured in Spain, circa 1961. In original condition with minor wear consistent of age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. Materials: Paper Dimensions: D 0.1 cm x W 50 cm x H 70 cm. This original historical poster was edited for the exhibition of drawings by Pablo Picasso that took place in the Sala Gaspar, which was the official representative of the artist in Spain. Limited edition. PABLO PICASSO (Málaga, 1881 – Mougnis, 1973). One of the most important and influential artists of the 20th century, his art left a profound impact on the development of modern and contemporary art. He was born into the family of the painter José Luís Blasco, who influenced the young artist's introduction to art. For a few years, Picasso lived in La Coruña, Barcelona and Madrid (where he studied at the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts). At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th he began to travel to Paris until, in 1904, he decided to settle in the French capital. His art is traditionally divided into several periods, although their names are still disputed by many art historians: The Blue Period, The Pink Period, the Proto-Cubist Period where the influence of African art is obvious, Cubism - which is divided into Analytical and Synthetic Cubism -, Neoclassicism, Surrealism and Expressionism. Pablo Picasso and the Gaspar family met in 1955 and from that moment the Sala Gaspar became an important center for the dissemination of Picasso's art in Spain. All exhibitions organized throughout the 1960-1980s were highly successful. Joan Gaspar continues to work with the work of Picasso, especially his graphic work, as well as being part of the patronage of the Picasso Museum in Barcelona. Located in San Diego, CA
Highly collectible and rare linocut poster "Vallavris Exhibition 1954" by Pablo Picasso, circa 1954.. The print is in good vintage and measures 24" x 30". It is presented in a simple black wood frame and is signed in the print. Super cool and hard to find Picasso poster! #2912 Starting in the 1950s, Picasso worked with the linocut printer Hidalgo Arnéra to produce posters for ceramic exhibitions and bullfights. The printer described their working method as such: “Picasso worked at night; in the morning, Marcel the chauffeur brought what he had completed to the print shop with notes added by Jacqueline Roque. I pulled the proofs and returned them to [his home] La Californie at exactly 1:30. This regular rhythm of working continued for eight years, every day, except Saturday and Sunday.” This idiosyncratic procedure speaks to the collaborative effort of these printmaking ventures, which included his partner, his printer, and his chauffeur Title: Vallauris Exhibition 1954 Artist: Pablo Picasso Printer: Printed by Hidalgo Arnéra Publisher: Published by Hidalgo Arnéra Date: 1954 Medium: Linoleum cut ABOUT THE ARTIST Born in 1881, Pablo Ruiz y Picasso followed in his father’s footsteps as an academically trained painter and studied art at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in his native Spain. Picasso traveled for the first time to Paris at age 19, establishing a studio there in 1904. He soon began a relationship with Fernande Olivier...
