John Lennon Original Vintage Poster by Richard Avedon for Look magazine, 1967

About the Item

Beatles manager Brian Epstein commissioned Richard Avedon to photograph the band and design a set of posters that would visually capture the new psychedelic direction of 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' and 'Magical Mystery Tour'. Following the shoot at a penthouse in Thompson House, 200 Grey's Inn Road, London, on 11 August 1967, Avedon distorted four of the polarised images with day-glo overlays and symbolic attributes. The photographs were first published in the 9 January 1968 edition of the US magazine Look, and the posters distributed simultaneously by Look in the US, the Daily Express in the UK and Stern magazine in Europe, together with a black and white banner poster of the band which became known as the Mount Rushmore poster. With the magazine's pull-out order form (illustrated for reference only) which described the four posters as Flame Bright John, Flower Power Paul, Mystic George and Dove Loving Ringo, American fans could send away for individual posters at $1.50 each or a full set for $5.95. The posters have become seminal images of the late 1960s, transcending the world of music memorabilia and appealing to collectors of art and design alike. Although originally printed in a large open edition, few survive in unused condition. An example of the Look magazine set is held in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. CONDITION Unfolded, conservation backed on linen. The most minor edge wear and small area of surface colour wear to purple at lower right corner. The occasional small crease with fine colour loss. Image and colours otherwise excellent.

James Bond 'Goldfinger' Original Vintage Film Poster, Swedish, 1967
By Gosta Aberg

Considered the quintessential and definitive Bond film, the third instalment in EON Productions' James Bond series set the template for many of the subsequent films, with its tongue in cheek humour, extensive use of gadgets and technology and multiple foreign locations. The first Bond blockbuster, 1964s 'Goldfinger' was also the first Bond film to utilise a standalone pre-credits sequence, the first to employ a pop star to sing the theme song and the first to win an Academy Award. The plot saw 007 uncover a plot to contaminate the United States gold reserve at Fort Knox while investigating the smuggling activities of powerful gold magnate Auric Goldfinger. This stunning poster designed by prolific Swedish...
