Max Ernst “Déchets d’Atelier” vintage signed poster

About the Item

Signed Max Ernst original lithographic poster from the “Déchets d’Atelier” exhibition held at Galerie Alphonse Chave in Vence 1968 hand signed in pencil France circa 1968, Max Ernst initially studied art history. When he met August Macke in 1910, he began to paint as an autodidact. The fascination of Macke's expressionist style, however, does not last long. At the latest when Ernst returns from the First World War, he is convinced that the traditional view of art is no longer appropriate. Based on this realization, he founded the group of Cologne Dadaists together with Arp in 1919. In the 1920s, Ernst joined the Surrealist movement in Paris. Fantastic-mythical depictions with visionary landscapes, forest and bird animals and fairy-tale shell flowers are now the content of his works. Early on, Ernst used the technique of collage, combining images and objects that did not belong together by means of alienation, thus creating a new, often absurd pictorial sense.
