Original Vintage Train Travel Poster Ipswich LNER Mr Pickwick The Ancient House

About the Item

Original vintage LNER train travel poster for Ipswich featuring stunning artwork by the notable painter and poster artist Fred Taylor (1875-1963) titled Mr. Pickwick The Ancient House depicting a scene from the 1836-7 novel The Pickwick Papers by the English author Charles Dickens (1812-1870) of Mr Pickwick being carried through the Suffolk town on a sedan chair past the historical 15th century Ancient House with Venetian style Ipswich Windows and its Tudor panels representing America Africa Asia Europe and Royal Coat of Arms located on the corner of Butter Market and St Stephens Lane. Originally written as a periodical serial published in 19 issues, the fictional Pickwick Papers is based on the travels and adventures around England by the Pickwick Club led by the kind elderly gentleman Samuel Pickwick, the founder and president of the club. Horizontal. Published by The London & North Eastern Railway. Printed by The Dangerfield Printing, London. Horizontal. Large size.
