GEORGES BRAQUE (France, Argenteuil-sur-Seine 1882 – Paris 1963).
French painter, engraver and sculptor who, with Juan Gris and Pablo Picasso, was one of the precursors of cubism. It was with Picasso that he worked closely developing a new technique that would later be called Cubism. The two artists also began to experiment with collage. The fertile collaboration between Braque and Picasso was interrupted when Braque enlisted in the French army in the aftermath of World War 1. From 1917 he resumed his solo artistic career. After the war Braque developed a more personal style.
