Gottfried Mind (1768 - 1814) was a talented Swiss artist and draftsman who specialized in children and animal motifs. Because of his successful cat drawings, he became known as Cat Raphael.
Mind grew up in modest circumstances, was physically handicapped and mentally retarded. Even as a child, he attracted attention with his talent for drawing and carving. Around 1775-1780 he lived in Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi's Neuhof educational and labour institution in Birr, where he showed talent in the field of fine arts, but was unable to learn to write or do arithmetic. After the Neuhof was closed in 1780, he was taken in by the family of the Bernese painter Sigmund Freudenberger...

Brodtmann is considered a pioneer in the art of lithography employing techniques for "texture" that are quite similar to that of an aquatint. He produced his lithographs in the post-Linnaean "'Age of Enlightenment" as books illustrations and sets of natural history prints, as Naturhistorische Bilder Gallerie aus dem Thierreiche, with the more expensive sets being hand coloured. 19C Aquatint Engraving of the Quay at Waterford
Located in Dallas, TX
Presenting a lovely 19C Aquatint Engraving of the Quay at Waterford in Waterford city in Ireland.
This engraving has been hand embellished with aquatint color(s) and is from Ireland circa 1820-40.
It features a scene of the Quay or Port of Waterford from circa 1820. We are basing this upon the attire of the figures in the engraving and the tall ships.
It features Reginald’s Tower (still located at the Waterford Quay to this day). Georgian Quay buildings, a number of moored tall ships and row boats, barrels, horses and carts, women and British soldiers.
The engraving was professionally reframed and matted in Dallas in the 1980’s and the rear of the frame says that it was “Museum Mounted and Matted”. The frame has a lovely Grecian pattern around the front.
If you are Irish...
