19th C. American - A Framed Set of 13 Hand Colored Alphabet Woodcut Prints A-M

About the Item

A framed set of 13 pages from "The Lu Lu Alphabet", a chapbook from 1851 published by Samuel Ragnot, NYC. This set comprises the first letters A through M, each with a short rhyming description. Occasionally copies of the book are seen with the charming woodcuts hand colored as in the case here. Although no author is credited in the book, the historical record cites Pamela Atkins Colman (1824-1900) as author. Dimensions: 26"w x 21.25"h x 1.75"d (frame) 22.5"w x 17.5"h (sight) 4"h x 3.25"w (sight for each woodcut) Condition: Good. Very nicely framed and matted. There is some foxing and creasing to the woodcut paper consistent with age and use. Overall very attractive and ready to hang.
