About the Item

A large, colorful, and exceptionally well executed Judaica-themed intaglio print on embossed paper with embossed copper foil inset titled “Jacob Dreams of a Ladder” by noted Morocco-born Jewish American artist Amram Ebgi (b. 1939). Signed and titled artist’s proof from a limited edition of 150. An enchanting example of the artist’s work, with exactingly etched lines giving detailed shape and life to a cavalcade of hand-applied color. The faces and forms of Jacob and a column of angels on a Hebrew character-inscribed ladder display wonderful emotion. Of particular note is an inset embossed copper foil medallion depicting a Jewish temple. Printed on white heavy rag paper with a deeply embossed design that frames and elevates the art. Signed, titled, and designated “A/P” in pencil in the artist’s hand along bottom of print. On verso is a certificate of authenticity from the Isart Israeli Art Center in Westhills, California. Professionally mounted with a stepped mat in a muted brass frame under acrylic glazing. From an artist bio: “Amram Ebgi depicted his Jewish culture and love of Israel through lithographs, silkscreen creations, oil paintings, and etchings. Born in Morocco, he immigrated to Israel’s Kfar Blum kibbutz in 1951. After serving in the Israeli Six Day War, he returned to his painting studio in the community of Kfar Blum and was soon commissioned by the Organization Kibbutzim to be their official state designer. He moved to the U.S. in 1981 and continued his work there.”
