Erté “Twin Sisters” Extra-Large Framed Serigraph, Hand-Signed & Numbered, 1981

About the Item

An epically scaled and immaculately executed 1981 framed serigraph of “Twin Sisters” by Erté, hand-signed and numbered by the artist. A strikingly beautiful and captivating work by Erté, this original edition of “Twin Sisters” (E-414) serves as an excellent showcase of his Art Deco style and technique, made all the more impactful by its oversized presentation. His signature complex yet fluid forms and clean line work are crisply captured in this meticulously hand-pulled serigraph. The stately black, grey, white, and gold color palette is punctuated with a perfect amount and placement of brilliant geometric fuchsia forms. Even with its graphically bold layout and room-defining scale, the work handsomely rewards those who lean in for a closer look. Signed by the artist in the margin at bottom right, and numbered “266/350” at bottom left. In what appears to be its original gloss black lacquered wood frame with stepped mat and gilt trim under acrylic glazing. Retains Circle Gallery, Ltd. “A Collectors’ Circle Label” on back mount, and includes a copy of the original 1983 Soho, New York gallery client invoice. Russian-born French artist and designer Erté (née Romain de Tirtoff, b. 1892–1990) was a singular talent of the 20th century who put brought his impeccable eye and inimitable Art Deco and Art Nouveau aesthetic to an array of fields, including fashion, jewelry, graphic arts, interior decor, and costume and set design for film, theatre, and opera. Much like the man himself, his work exuded style, class, and refinement, all of which are on exemplary display in the example offered here.
