About the Item
A beautiful, serene rural image by Dutch-born American/Californian painter, etcher, and artist Cornelis Botke (1887-1954) titled "Foothill Ranch".
The work - an etching is on wove paper - is hand signed and titled in pencil by Botke. Although the edition number is unknown it was likely restricted to 25 or 5o printings.
Cornelis Botke was born in Holland in 1887 and graduated from the Haarlem School of Applied Design at age 18. He emigrated to America eventually settling in Carmel, California in 1919, where Cornelis taught at Carmel Arts and Crafts. In the 1920s, he took up the medium of etchings and it wasn't long before he became one of the most esteemed etchers in the country and internationally recognized as such. Today, Botke's etchings can be found in many renowned collections including the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian, and the Santa Paula Art Museum and his paintings have been exhibited in such prestigious museums as the Los Angeles County Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago.
