Cornelis Botke Signed Limited Ed. California Artist Etching Print Road to Bodega

About the Item

A beautiful, serene rural image by Dutch-born American/Californian painter, etcher, and artist Cornelis Botke (1887-1954) titled "Road to Bodega (sometimes referred to as On The Road to Bodega)". This is one of Botke's more coveted works/images. The limited edition work - an etching is on wove paper - is hand signed, numbered (32/50), and titled in pencil by Botke. This appears to be from the second edition/printing Botke did as this was a very popular image and the first printing of likely 25-50 sold out. Cornelis Botke was born in Holland in 1887 and graduated from the Haarlem School of Applied Design at age 18. He emigrated to America eventually settling in Carmel, California in 1919, where Cornelis taught at Carmel Arts and Crafts. In the 1920s, he took up the medium of etchings and it wasn't long before he became one of the most esteemed etchers in the country and internationally recognized as such. Today, Botke's etchings can be found in many renowned collections including the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian, and the Santa Paula Art Museum and his paintings have been exhibited in such prestigious museums as the Los Angeles County Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago. Would be a great addition to any collection of his work or California art or make for an eye catching stand alone artwork in about any setting. The etching is beautifully matted and framed and ready to display. Frame dimensions: 15.25" high, 17.25: wide, 1' deep Viewable artwork: 8.25" x 10.5"
