Early Karel Appel abstract lithograph, épreuve d'artiste, or E/A artist proof dated 1950. A rare 9/24 rendition of an abstract work by Appel in browns, greys, purples, blacks and golds on Arches paper. Karel Appel’s works are colourful, powerful and impressive. Karel Appel, born April 25, 1921, was one of the most important painters of the post-war era in the Netherlands. Known for his colorful personality and for his fluid, spontaneous approach to his paintings. He believed in an entirely unskilled form of creative expression. And looked for inspiration to the art produced by children and artists who worked outside the canon (folk artists). Appel passed on May 3, 2006 and was laid to rest at the famous cemetery of Père-Lachaise in Paris.
