Limited screen print by R.W. Beerens, Netherlands 1990s

About the Item

Limited (nr. 95 of 100) screen print. Made by Ruud (Rudy) Beerens in 1999. The piece has been framed in an aluminium frame with a glass pane. Ruud (R.W., Rudy) Beerens (1950 Weert – 2023 Maastricht) was not only an artist, but also a performer, collector, storyteller. During his life he strolled flea markets, thrift centers and (souvenir) shops. There was always something that caught his attention. And to store and display everything, he bought cabinets to use all the objects. His home was not only his studio, but became a treasury with references to other and bygone times. With the collection of analog photography, self-recorded video- and music cassettes, vinyl records, books, boats and seahorses, works of art that he bought and made, diaries and drawings.Appropriate was therefore Ruud's last solo presentation in Bonnefanten, the exhibition Tuisreizen. Where a selection from his private treasury was shown and visitors were surprised with a unique insight into his artistry. Friday, April 14 2024, a final wish will be fulfilled at Bonnefanten during Museumnacht Maastricht. Ruud came up with the performance A Message to You Terry Hall, with a crucial role for his old Ford Capri. He was no longer allowed to experience the performance himself. In the presence of Ruud's family and friends, Chris Ripken posthumously performed the live artwork. In Ruud Beerens' old Ford Capri, an ode has been carved to Terry Hall. Terry Hall was the composer of the song A Message to You Rudy (1979) and lead singer of the British ska band The Specials. Sound recordings that Ruud himself had recorded could be heard from the Ford Capri. And until March 1, 2027, Ruud's neon installation FietsenRudy is still with a selection of other works of art from the Bonnefanten and other Dutch museums, on loan to the temporary housing of the Senate.
