Peter Gee "Harvard Target #4" Abstract Op Art Serigraph
About the Item
An Op Art serigraph print on paper titled Harvard Target #4 by British-born artist, designer and developer Peter Gee (1932-2005). This print is comprised of matte shapes on a deep purple ground. Four small circles and a square in matte and neon inks overlay a pink rectangle with one rounded corner atop a purple ground.
Harvard University commissioned Gee to design this series of prints for their color theory workshop taught at Harvard by Peter in the 1960s.
Peter Gee was a British born artist who made a name for himself in the United States during the height of the Pop Art period. Notably, works by Gee were displayed in the "Word and Image: Posters and Typography from the Graphic Design Collection of the Museum of Modern Art, 1879-1967" in 1968. During this time, he was also teaching classes at the New School, the School of Visual Arts, and the Harvard Architectural School. Gee lived most of his life in New York City, restoring lofts and unusual buildings to their former glory.
