About the Item

A late-18th century Italian hand-colored copper engravings, original Italian etchings by Remondini, from Bassano dating back to 1770 circa. The optical views published by the Remondinis fully represent the Italian popular press: simple in the stroke, colored with a few hues in a rapid and decisive manner, they fascinate for their immediacy and have been the subject of numerous exhibitions, collections and studies in recent years. The views were prepared to be placed in the New World, where the common people could see them illuminated and thus get to know the cities of the world. The Remondinis were a family of printers operating in Bassano, Veneto, creating one of the most important chalcography in Europe, reaching its best in the second half of the eighteenth century; active until 1861.
