About the Item

Excellent etching entitled "Yomiuri Shimbun" by Christine Amarger. Pencil signed and numbered, 101/150. Yomiuiri Shimbun is one of Japan's national newspapers founded in 1874. The framing treatment consists of a silver wood molding, white matte and behind glass. Complete with “Certificate of Authentication” from Christie's Contemporary Art, circa 1980. Bio: Born in Clermont-Ferrand France in 1935 Christine Amarger took specialized training to be a teacher of young children. She studied at l'Ecole du Louvre in Paris before spending a time studying printmaking at Atelier XVII finally going on to train and then teach at the Pratt Institute in America. Throughout her career she has avolved a highly personalized style reflecting her interest in children and contrasting this with elements of contemporary life. She has worked on a series of etchings choosing from them differing themes of newspapers, umbrellas musical instruments, bird cages all seen in relation to children and depicted in a humorous slightly satirical way. Amarger has held many exhibitions both on the Continent and in America. Her work has been chosen for major international art fairs notably in Basel Dusseldorf and Washington DC. Her most recent exhibition was during the Spring of 1982 in Sydney Australia where her work was shown with two other French artists. Overall dimensions are 1.75" deep x 31.5" wide x 29" high. The site measurements are approximately 18.75" wide x 16" high. The piece is in visible good condition with no rips, tears, foxing or restorations. The work of art has not been viewed out of the frame.
