About the Item

This exquisite 19th-century French tapestry, woven using a Jacquard loom, is a faithful reproduction of Panel II from the renowned Renaissance tapestry series, The Hunts of Maximilian. Originally designed by Bernaert Van Orley (circa 1528–1531) and hand-woven in Brussels at the Dermoyen workshop between 1531 and 1533, the original series consisted of twelve tapestries depicting elaborate hunting scenes enjoyed by Emperor Maximilian I. This piece showcases a richly detailed forest and hunting scene, reflecting the grandeur, naturalism, and narrative depth of the original 16th-century Belgian masterpieces. Woven with precision and artistry, this tapestry captures the texture, tone, and visual drama of the original works, which were crafted in wool, silk, and metal threads. SKU Nos. 1249 and 1250 belong to this rare and historic reproduction series, preserving an important chapter in European textile art.
