Early 18th Century Large Rare Venetian Valance/Wall Hanging of St. Peter
About the Item
This incredible hand crafted Italian (Venetian ) 17th- 18th century Wall Hanging /Valance originated from a gorgeous Palazzo in Venice with its own chapel dedicated to St.Peter and the Vatican. This pompous Wall Hanging is definitely one of a kind piece illustrating St.Peter (in the Center ) which is hand painted, all over hand crafted with golden and silver threads and symbols of Venetian crowns, lions and fleur de lis-all of it are royalty symbols. In that time ,silver and golden threads were used heavily not only for clothing and furnishings of the royalty and nobility throughout Europe, but also in the most expensive tapestries. This kind of embroidery has always been reserved for occasional and special use, not only because it’s very expensive materials but also because of the time needed to create such art work.
This magnificent Valance is very large and measures the length of 438 cm and the hight of 130 cm. The history of Wall Hangings like that goes back to 9th century, they were not only used as a Wall hangings but also as a room division interior design.
During the Middle Ages, churches and castles in Europe were decorated with elaborate tapestries depicting religious scenes or historical events. As a result, they became status symbols amongst the aristocracy.
This stunning unique Wall Hanging is a masterpiece which can be a perfect center item of any kind of space.
