Large Harris Strong wall hanging colorful glazed ceramic riverfront city scape

About the Item

Stylized riverfront city scape of glazed and fired Terra cotta . Eight buildings with a freighter passing by . The white triangle possibly a sailboat . Glazed in vivid colors assembled by Harris G. Strong inc. Remnant of Harris Strong label on the backside with what is possibly a model number W-36 . Upon returning from his military duties in WW 2 Harris Strong ( 1920 - 2006 ) graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in chemical engineering. Later studied ceramic art at New York University. Early in life his aunt, Henrietta “Brownie” Strong, an artist who owned her own greeting card company, inspired him to be an artist, but also to be practical about the need to earn a living. After several jobs and starting a company called the Potters of Wall Street, he and his wife, Rosyln founded Harris G. Strong, Inc., in the Bronx, N.Y., in 1950. Through innovative design and serendipity, he soon found success with decorated ceramic tiles and the company grew.
