"Tourmaline Time" Ladies Mesh Wristwatch Conversion Bracelet in 14 Karat Gold
About the Item
In our neverending crusade to reuse high-quality gold ladies' wristwatches -- beautifully made and wearable as anything BUT a timepiece -- we offer this hot-off-the-workbench 14 karat gold bracelet, formerly a Lady Elgin manual wind wristwatch with an itty-bitty face.
Eytan replaced the watch guts, crystal and itty bitty face with a deeply saturated pink, yellow and green "watermelon" tourmaline. (Usually the "watermelon" qualifier is used for tourmalines that are green and pink; our stone has a bit of yellow, but it still reminds us of watermelon...)
The 4.7 carat stone, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, has a simple step cut with a large table (all the better to show off the colors, my dear).
The bracelet is a thick, semi-flexible mesh -- solid 14 karat gold and built to last. The case has been sealed shut, the crown removed, and the stem hole filled in. The bracelet retains the sleek, modern look of a mid-century wristwatch, but without the eye-straining inconvenience of a wind-up watch that's never as accurate as your phone!
The foldover lock has two rungs to allow for a slight (about 1/4") adjustment in length. Since this was a watch, it was sized for a close fit. It looks best worn the same way, and it won't fit wrists much larger than 6-1/4". We don't recommend resizing. A safety chain, detachable on one end, is included.
The band is 11mm (0.44") wide and 2.6mm thick.
The back of the watch case and the spring ring on the safety chain are both stamped 14 karat gold. The clasp is stamped "14K" plus an unknown maker's mark (for the strap, not the original watch).
