Victorian Scottish Pyramid Agate Bracelet

About

This rare agate bracelet, sets in gold. one of the best examples of stone sculpting I have found in Scottish jewelry. The stones as elongated pyramids or abstract bows. Image 6 shows the agate shapes perfectly. Click, if you will, on a close up of the bracelet to clearly see the rich colors of the agates. Terra Cotta stippled with greenish black, mossy agate with peach, olive with charcoal ripples, peach with bisque, and a crest shaped padlock of orange, green, tan and white are the natural shades of the stones. The central stripe of tan on the padlock is lighter in person than is represented on my computer screen. Scottish jewelry played a large role during the reign of Queen Victorian and Prince Albert. This was a monarchy that steeped itself in Scottish culture and tradition. The pair built a castle in Scotland known as Balmoral Castle. There they would live and don traditional Scottish clothing of tartan with the appropriate shoes, belt and accessories. The beauty of the natural stones and the expertise of the stone carving was admired by the European non royals as well and gorgeous agate brooches, bracelets and earrings were designed, mostly set in silver. This example of Scottish jewelry is the highest quality. All parts are made by hand including the stone carving, settings and agate polishing. The bracelet comes in its original fitted box. The imprint on the box is Millidge Jewellers, Edinburgh. Though 150 years have passed since the bracelet was made, the condition is superb. See Ginny Dawes and Corinne Davidov's wonderful book of Victorian Jewelry for examples of Scottish jewels of the era.The length of the bracelet is 7 5/8 inches. The height of the center part of the agate is 3/8 of an inch. Excellent condition
