Antique Georgian/Victorian 14k Gold and Seed Pearl Braided Hair Mourning Brooch
About the Item
A fine antique mourning brooch.
In 14k (or 15k) yellow gold.
Set with 2 concentric rows of seed pearls - each with dentil decorated bezels and braided locks of hair set under faceted glass.
In the Georgian and Victorian eras, woven hair art was used to memorialize a departed loved one or given as a keepsake memorial for a loved one in their absence.
Engraved with the name "A. Copcutt".
Remarkably, it appears to retain to the reverse the original hinge, pin stem, and the clasp.
Simply a wonderful large size mourning brooch!
