Antique Georgian Gold, Enamel, and Seed Pearl Braided Hair Mourning Brooch

About the Item

A fine antique Georgian gold, seed pearl, hair, and enamel mourning brooch. With braided or plaited hair behind glass in a worked gold setting set with seed pearls and surrounded by a black enamel band. The reverse bears a pin for attachment and likely had a jump ring removed. In the Georgian and Victorian eras, woven hair art was used to memorialize a departed loved one or given as a keepsake memorial for a loved one in their absence. The gold tests at 10k. Simply a wonderful Georgian mourning brooch! Date: Late 18th or Early 19th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall fair, as-pictured, used estate condition. Condition Details: There are chips to the enamel band on one side. The hinge and pin are gold-filled replacements. There is a filed spot on the top of the brooch that likely had a jump ring attached at one point. Otherwise, there are a few spots of content trapped under the glass bezel, some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age. Fineness: Unmarked for gold fineness. Professionally tests at 10k (and is quite possibly 12k as many of these pieces are). Measurements: Width: ca. 22 mm Height: ca. 19 mm Depth: ca. 9 mm Weight: ca. 5.2 g Items purchased from this dealer must delight you. Purchases may be returned for any reason for a period of 7 days.
