Castellani Agate Cameo 15kt Gold Stick Pin
About the Item
Etruscan style gold granulation frame in 15kt yellow gold stick pin that is centered by a contemporary round black and white agate (hardstone) cameo. The subject is an Ancient woman’s profile with curly hair wearing a head band. The cameo is bezel set and weighs 4.3 grams and measures 20mm diameter. The stickpin is 7cm in length and can be shortened. A yellow base metal clutch is included to be able to wear and stay on while wearing. The Castellani and Double C Logo plates are affixed to the back.
Castellani’s Jewellery from the 19th Century is in museums:
British Museum; Victoria & Albert Museum; Metropolitan Museum of Art; The Smithsonian’s Cooper Hewitt Museum to name a few); exhibitions as well as in private collections.
Fortunato Pio Castellani can be called the "Father of Archeological Revival Jewellery". In the mid 1800's in Rome, Castellani had the entree to visit the Ancient Etruscan ruins. He was able to study these Ancient designs as well as other Ancient Mediterranean civilizations’ jewellery and started to create and re-design under his brand.
