Large Vintage 1950s Palladium 2.9ctw Diamond Stylised Ear of Wheat Brooch
About the Item
A vintage diamond, and palladium brooch, comprising eighty-one round brilliant and single cut diamonds, and seven baguette cut diamonds, set in palladium, with palladium pin and fittings.
This arresting vintage brooch is designed as a stylised ear of wheat. Wheat has long since symbolised fertility, life, and abundance, and jewellery displaying a wheat motif was often given to a woman upon birth of her children, so it is likely that this spectacular brooch was presented as a gift to someone who had recently had a baby. The brooch is set with an abundance of baguette cut, brilliant cut, and single cut diamonds. The diamonds are wonderfully bright, white, and sparkly, with good clarity and colour. This stylised ear of wheat is ‘tied’ at the bottom with tendrils of diamonds, the motif extending gracefully upwards. Baguette and brilliant cut diamonds branch out, representing the grain, with a large round brilliant cut diamond at the centre of unfurling leaves. The brooch is wonderfully detailed, down to the 4 diamonds which are set to the tip of the brooch, as if is it curling round on itself. The brooch is complete with a safety catch and pin in palladium. The brooch is in excellent condition. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
The brooch measures 74mm long, 22mm wide, and 8.5mm deep (excluding pin and fittings).
