Antique Victorian 18 Karat French Diamond Gold Earrings
About the Item
Petite Old Mine Diamonds in cushion shape dangle from their diamond tops. Every move makes the bottom stones articulate and shimmer. Made c. 1890, they were know as "dormeuse" or sleeper earrings for they are comfortable and of a size that one can sleep with when worn. At the century's turn, these were as popular with the well dressed woman as diamond stud earrings are today. The small diamonds at the top are 5 points each. The bottom stones are 39 points each making a total weight of 88 points. Of G color and VS clarity, just the right sparkle is achieved for daytime. The petite earrings are 3/4 of an inch long. They bear the French hallmark for 18kt gold and are in excellent condition.
