About the Item
A pair of unique 18 karat yellow gold convertible day/night "China Sea" ear pendants, on a fitted brass stand, by British artist jeweler, Wendy Ramshaw, 1998. Ramshaw’s piece comes with its own fitted stand, making it both object and jewelry. The fitted brass stand measures 7.25" x 4.75"x 2.75"
Wendy Ramshaw liked to say, “Jewelry is joy.” She was an innovator who worked across fields - ceramics, jewelry, sculpture and design. She began making paper jewelry in the 1960s for Mary Quant, long before “contemporary” jewelry took hold of our imaginations. She invented stacking rings and won an award for it in 1972. She designed the Gates to Hyde Park in London, among other famous ventures; she broke down the barriers between jewelry and sculpture in her famed Ring Sets. She brought her obsession with geometry to jewelry and made it vividly beautiful in the richness of gold. Honored by the Queen twice, Ramshaw held both a CBE and an OBE. Ramshaw, England's most famous artist jeweler, passed away earlier in 2018.
