This 25" necklace is composed of 79 hand-carved and polished dark green "imperial jade" beads. I place the phrase in quotes because there is no standard to classify "imperial jade." Frequently, the term today is used to describe "apple" jade. Apple jade is lighter and brighter with a hint of yellow. Most people have never seen -nor will they- true deep emerald green "imperial" jade like the beads you see here. They are a pure deep green. This is an old-school imperial jade necklace, even though it's new. The highly translucent beads are beautiful always, whether you are in the shadows or the sun. You will want to wear them to bed; indeed there is no reason whatsoever to ever take this necklace off once it is around your neck. It's perfect to wear gardening or lounging by the pool and it's equally perfect to wear as you accept your Oscar. I am amazed by these beads. In the dimmest possible light at the very threshold of pure darkness, these beads somehow manage to radiate deep green. There is no material substance in the world like imperial jade and when you actually hold the necklace in your hand you understand everything: why it's nearly impossible to find, why it's so costly when you do. What matters is the jade and how it makes you feel. I love jade on a deep level and have since I was a young child. My grandparents were collectors. But this necklace is unlike all the jade I've ever experienced. It is such a pure, fine, deep green that it seems to be seen not merely by the eyes but by the soul as well. It's a green you can feel. The beads measure 8.26mm to 6.61mm with most being 7mm. If these beads were 18mm instead, this necklace would sell for tens of millions of dollars. And it would be worth every penny. The clasp is 18K white gold and features a white, fire-filled European-cut diamond that weighs about 1 carat. It's near-colorless (G) and eye-clean (VS). This is an exceedingly rare necklace of superlative quality. This rare and magnificent jewel ships with a certificate from Stone Group Labs attesting to the fact that the jade is jadeite from Burma and is untreated.
