Spinel Necklace with Zircon and Diamond Clasp Certified No-Heat

About the Item

A stunning and entirely unique unworn necklace made with 49 natural and certified unheated spinel beads in soft shades of pink, lavender-gray, light purple, soft copper, and raspberry red. The nuanced palate of these beads is perfectly complimented by the 14K white gold clasp set with an electric blue faceted zircon. The natural zircon gem measures 7.5mm and weighs approximately 2 carats. The dazzling zircon is further enhanced by a halo of 16 tiny sparkling white diamonds. Spinel is a natural gemstone that is frequently confused with ruby and sapphire. In fact, the famous huge "ruby" in England's state crown was only confirmed to be a red spinel instead of a red ruby in the 19th century. Spinel is durable, like ruby and sapphire and it also comes in a wide range of colors. I've never before encountered a beaded spinel necklace and what perfectly beautiful beads they are. They are just shockingly beautiful when you hold them in your hand. The gemmy beads take on almost a metallic sheen in the light. And the colors are so unique. The beads are strung on lavender silk and knotted between each bead. Zircon was the first "gemstone" to form in the earth. It is the oldest gem in the collection of gemstones our planet has given to us. This zircon is a pleasing two-carats in size, a Tiffany-box blue with nearly as much fire as a diamond. And while the 16 fill-cut diamonds that surround this gemmy zircon total approximately .20 of a carat, they do provide a lovely ring of fire around the stunning zircon. The necklace is a flattering 22" in length. The beads measure 9mm to 9.93mm in size. This necklace ships with a certificate from Stone Group Labs stating that the spinel beads have "evidence of clarity enhancement." Sometimes gem certificates can be tricky to read so here's what that means. These spinel beads are not heated. We know that because the gem lab would have told us, "Evidence of heat treatment." If there is no mention of a treatment that means it didn't happen. "Clarity enhancement" sounds quite alarming considering the horrendous things that are done to gemstones. But in the case of these spinel beads, that "evidence" is oil, as is found in most emeralds. The spinel beads were oiled like you might oil your fine wood furniture at home with lemon oil to make it "glow." It's exactly the same thing here. A beautiful, unusual, natural necklace that will have a lot of people asking, "What are those beads around your neck?"

  • Akoya Pearl Double Strand Necklace with Gold & Diamond Clasp Pristine Midcentury
    Located in Southbury, CT
This 16" strand of vintage cultured Akoya pearls features large and luminous pearls. 8.31mm, 8.24mm, 8.19mm, 8.04mm, 8.29mm, 8.43mm, 8.51mm: these are measurements I took of the pearls at random. In the world of cultured Akoya pearls, 8mm is the delineating mark; 8mm and larger are considered "luxury" pearls because of the time and risk involved in culturing pearls this large. The longer a pearl stays in the water, the thicker the nacre but the greater the chances for malformation. With this strand, we have the ideal: uniform, round pearls with thick nacre, and gorgeous luminosity, but without the pits and surface imperfections, we often see in pearls of this size and vintage. The vast majority of Akoya pearls are 6mm and 7mm. All of these pearls are 8mm and well beyond. If the classic 16" length feels too short for you, it's easy for your jeweler to add a bit of length by having the pearls restrung with double knots and French wire. In this way, you can transform this into a 17" necklace. This necklace, created in the 1950s, features two strands of 75 top-quality cultured Akoya pearls in a near-ivory tone without any evidence of pinking, the dying process the vast majority of cultured Akoya pearls undergo to give them a light pink blush. These pearls lack that artificial tint. The clasp is measures 23mm x 19.47 and was hand-fabricated. The clasp is formed into the shape of a flower with six small, full-cut diamonds prong-set in the center Interestingly, the diamonds are of far better quality than such small stones on a necklace clasp need to be. They are near-colorless (G-I) and clean (VS2). Together they weigh .25 carats. The clasp is unmarked but tests as 14K. This is the ultimate classic double-strand cultured Akoya necklace...
