History of Tahitian Cultured Pearls: The islands of French Polynesia are the source of the Tahitian cultured pearls for this wonderful strand of Tahitian cultured pearls. The pearls are created in the "Te ufi" as the black-lipped pearl mussel "Pinctada margaritifera cumingii" is called in Polynesia. The mother-of-pearl of the "Te ufi" is silver-grey on the shell, anthracite-colored towards the edge, sometimes to smoky brown and black. A pronounced iridescent play of colors is typical of the individual, large pearls, which can show overtones of green and pink tones depending on the incidence of light and the intensity of the light
