Antique Victorian 1870s Gold 48ctw Garnet Fringe Necklace in Original Fitted Box
About the Item
A Victorian garnet and yellow gold necklace, comprising ten oval cut garnets, and thirty-seven round cut garnets, set in yellow gold, with yellow gold fittings.
This tasteful necklace is set with an array of glowing red garnets, with faceted rose cut tops. The garnets are a deep, luxurious wine-red and are well-matched with one another. Round cut garnets in open-backed claw settings, create a graduating ‘riviere’ necklace, the garnets increasing in size to the large, central stone. Oval shaped garnet drops are suspended from the necklace, giving the piece elegance and movement. The way the garnets are cut allow them to catch the light, and they come into their own in a candle lit setting. The necklace is fully articulated, allowing it to set perfectly against the skin. The necklace is complete with a concealed, secure box clasp. The necklace is in excellent condition. Wear and tear acquiescent with age.
The necklace is presented in its original fitted case, with green leather outer, with a geometric pattern tooled in gold, and creams velvet and ivory silk interior. Printed on the inside of the lid in gold, with “Edward Tessier Jeweller & Silversmith, Mourning Ornaments 26. New Bond Street W London”. Edward Tessier and his brother inherited the business from their father, and soon after decided to go their separate ways, with Edward maintaining the Bond Street business, and his brother maintaining the South Audley Street business.
