Ancient Greek 2nd Century BC Alexander the Great Coin 22K Gold Pendant

About the Item

An interesting authentic ancient Greek silver "tetradrachm" from 212-180 BC, features an image of the mythical Greek hero Hercules and is set within a ancient-inspired Steven Battelle 22K granulated pendant design. This particular type of coin was designed early in Alexanders rule, eventually being minted in up to 50 different cities, even after his death. Although the basic images on both sides were similar, each city had a particular style of the portraiture of Hercules and the image of Zeus enthroned on the reverse. This particular coin was minted, after Alexanders rule, in Aspendus, Pamphylia, which was a city in a Greek region in what is now southern Turkey near the coast. It has a secondary "anchor" stamp of the Seleucid empire on the side of the head. These stamps were applied later, after the coin was minted, to signify validity within a region of during a particular rulers realm. The Seleucid empire was one of the 4 regions that Alexander's territories were divided into by his generals after his death. This pendant comes with a laminated coin certificate of authenticity. The various chains shown are not included, but can be ordered additionally. We discount our chains 20% when ordered with a pendant.
