Ancient Greek 4th Century BC Apollo Tetradrachm Coin Diamond 18K Gold Pendant
About the Item
The Greek god Apollo is here depicted on an authentic silver "tetradrachm" issued between 370-60 BC by the Satrap Maussolos in Caria (now in southern Turkey), just before the conquest of the region by Alexander the Great. Maussolos transformed the capitol into a major center of Hellenistic culture, and created monumental structures including the Mausoleum of Hallicarnasus, which was one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. Apollo was the Olympian god of the sun and light, music and poetry, healing and plagues, and prophecy and knowledge. He was viewed as a primarily benevolent god of healing, protection, and prophecy. This large and rare coin (frontal images were very unusual in ancient coins) is set in a handmade Steven Battelle designed line hand-carved double bezel 18K gold setting which complements the flowing hair style of Apollo. The reverse of the coin is an image of Zeus standing. This pendant is sent with a laminated lifetime coin certificate of authenticity. The 24 inch handmade hammered chain shown is not included, but can be ordered additionally. We discount our chains 20% when ordered with pendant. This is a historic and extremely rare piece! You will not find another anywhere!

Eventually forming a partnership with a dedicated group of Balinese village goldsmiths using painstaking handmade techniques, they together create unique designs that incorporate those timeless and classic motifs. He incorporates primarily cabochon gemstones as well as ancient Greek and Roman coins, each piece capturing the feelings of a bygone age.
