Ancient Greek 5th Century BC Ephesus Bee Coin Diamond 18K Gold Pendant
About the Item
An authentic ancient early Greek silver "drachm" coin from Ephesus 500-420 BC, is held in a slightly hammered 18K gold double bezel setting with a 1.8 mm VS1 diamond and several "jawan" granulation accents below in this beautiful Steven Battelle designed pendant. Ephesus was an ancient Greek colony established in what is now the western coast of Turkey. It was one of the primary cities of the region throughout ancient times, continuing through the Romans. The ruins there are often visited today. The bee and the deer were sacred to Artemis, the patron goddess of Ephesus. Artemis is the Olympian goddess of the hunt, the moon, and chastity; in time, she also became associated with childbirth and nature. This piece comes with a laminated coin certificate of authenticity. The chain shown is not included but can be ordered additionally. We discount our chains 20% when ordered with a pendant.

After a chance trip to SouthEast Asia in 1987, Steven Battelle became fascinated with the jewelry and iconology from the ancient cultures of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Asia. Eventually forming a partnership with a dedicated group of Balinese village goldsmiths using painstaking handmade techniques, they together create unique designs that incorporate those timeless and classic motifs. He incorporates primarily cabochon gemstones as well as ancient Greek and Roman coins, each piece capturing the feelings of a bygone age.
