About the Item
An authentic ancient early Greek silver drachm coin from Ephesus 500- 420 BC, with the beautiful depiction of a bee, is held in a simple wide line textured bezel and hammered matte-finish shank in this ancient-inspired Steven Battelle designed ring. Ephesus was an ancient Greek colony established in what is now the western coast of Turkey. It was one of the primary cities of the region throughout ancient times, continuing through the Romans. The ruins there are often visited today. The bee and the deer were sacred to Artemis, the patron goddess of Ephesus. Artemis is the Olympian goddess of the hunt, the moon, and chastity; in time, she also became associated with childbirth and nature. This piece comes with a laminated coin certificate of authenticity. The ring is currently sized 6.5. It is resizable.

After a chance trip to SouthEast Asia in 1987, Steven Battelle became fascinated with the jewelry and iconology from the ancient cultures of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, and Asia. Eventually forming a partnership with a dedicated group of Balinese village goldsmiths using painstaking handmade techniques, they together create unique designs that incorporate those timeless and classic motifs. He incorporates primarily cabochon gemstones as well as ancient Greek and Roman coins, each piece capturing the feelings of a bygone age.
