Antique Enameled Gold Hand with Heart Shaped Natural Emerald Dangle - Pendant
About the Item
This is a one-of-a-kind pendant charm that was converted from an antique stickpin that had been damaged. Now it may be enjoyed worn on a chain, with the heart shaped natural emerald drop I have added.
Testing as 18K gold for the hand and buttoned style cuff, I used 14K for the bail and bezel for added durability.
Measuring from the top of the gold bail to the bottom of the heart dangle, the total drop length is approximately 1 3/8 of an inch (36 mm)
Nice and glossy, the black enamel presents beautifully, but I do believe there are areas that were touched up at some point, and there are also some areas of wear. (it's even possible the hand was not always enameled and it was added some time in the past before I found it) The enamel creates wonderful contrast with the rich gold hue, and the vivid green of the emerald.
Approximately 6.1 x 5.1 mm, the emerald has a substantial gold bezel. I selected the gem for its wonderful color; it does have some natural inclusions (referred to as "jardin") but they are not terribly noticeable to the naked eye. (please note that your screen might display colors differently than mine does)
The pendant does move a bit from side to side when worn - it doesn't like to lie completely flat because I had to leave some of the gold on the back of the hand, where the pin stem originally attached. (removing more risked damage to the enamel) I still love it and its striking presence. The bail is round and rather sizable, so it will accommodate several styles of chain. The inside diameter measures approximately 5 mm. (it can be made to be oval, of you prefer)
On my scale, the finished weight is a nice 4.04 grams.

- Condition:Additions or alterations made to the original: Originally the black enameled hand was part of a Victorian era stickpin - the pin was damaged, so I removed it to make a charm pendant a& added a custom bezeled natural emerald to dangle. Wear consistent with age and use. There is some wear to the black enamel, and some old touch ups/layers to it. Overall, it presents very well.
