Antique Double Heart Pendant with Diamond & Rubies - approx 1.04 tcw

About the Item

Sparkly and sentimental, this elegant diamond & ruby Double Heart was once part of a late Victorian brooch/pin. I've converted it to an easy to wear pendant by adding a hidden gold bail on the reverse and removing the old pin stem and clasp. Crafted of gold testing at 12K to 14K with silver, the pendant features a classic design of two hearts (one with chunky old diamonds and one with old cut rubies) that are intertwined and surmounted by a diamond set bow. The total estimated gem weight in the piece is approximately 1.04 carats. A really nice size - not too large, nor too small, the pendant measures approximately 1 inch x 13/16 of an inch or approximately 25 x 22 mm. There are 15 diamonds within the diamond heart, 14 rubies in the ruby heart and an additional 14 diamonds in the diamond bow. Bright and fiery, the approximately .52 carats of diamonds are a combination of chunky old Swiss/single cuts with some old rose cuts, and one cushion cut diamond. (the different cuts can be seen with magnification) A few show some wear and inclusions under magnification; they all are extremely lively, bright and work well together, with silver topped settings to complement the color of the stones. (the diamonds set into the heart average approximatley 1.5 mm in diameter; those in the bow range in size from approximately 1 mm to 2.8 mm in diameter) Measuring approximately 2 to 1.8 mm in diameter, the approximately .52 carats of rubies contrast beautifully with the diamonds, with rich red to red-raspberry color, and nice sparkle and glow. I love that the rubies are set in yellow gold, without any silver, to create even more of a contrast between the two hearts and their respective stones. With only very slight wear to the gems overall, I see only one ruby that is chipped, visible with magnification. The hidden bail is a nice size to slide your favorite chain through. On my scale, the finished weight of the heart pendant is 5.21 grams. Charming and lovely, this piece is ready to wear and enjoy.
