Antique Diamond Star Pendant with Old Cushion Cut Diamonds
About the Item
Offered is a striking antique diamond pendant in the shape of a stylized star. Chunky & fiery old cushion cut diamonds dazzle in this piece that was converted from a larger antique Georgian era piece. Estimated carat weight is approximately 2 carats, or so.
Four fine quality cushiony old mine cut diamonds (with wonderful cuts and clarity) are set at the North, South, East and West points of the pendant, with smaller twinkly old cut diamonds set within inverted arcs between each of the larger diamonds. The stones are set in gold backed silver, as was the custom of that time, though the larger diamonds have had their closed backings removed so they are especially white and brilliant. The gold backing tests around 12K rosy gold, while the recently added gold loop and jump ring test as 14K yellow gold. The rich patina on the silver creates lovely contrast with the diamonds.
With a sizable presence, the pendant has a total drop length of approximately 1 5/16 of an inch or 32.6 mm, including the jump ring. The star itself measures just under 1 1/8 x just under 1 1/8 inches. (27.5 x 27.5 mm) On my scale, the finished weight is 3.29 grams.
I've shown two photos of the pendant suspended from a beautiful handmade 22K gold chain, as just one idea for how to wear it. (the chain is not included, but if you are interested in a similar one I am happy to source one for you) I love the rich contrast of the blackened silver with the high karat gold, but it also looks great on silver, platinum, white gold or 14K to 18K yellow gold chains of various lengths. It's a good layering piece, to combine with smaller pendant charms, too.
