An absolutely stunning Victorian period Diamond & Pearl Pendant - Dress Clip with super fiery old mine cut & rose cut diamonds along with a sizable lustrous pearl drop. Just gorgeous & so much more wonderful in person. Crafted of silver and gold testing at 12K, the sizable pendant - dress clip features a swaying line of old cut diamonds surrounded by a border of diamonds and surmounted by a pear shaped old mine cut diamond - for a total of 43 antique diamonds. An elegant pearl with diamond studded cap dangles below. I estimate the total carat weight to be approximately 1.98 carats, or so. Originally this would have been worn as a dress clip and would still look amazing worn that way - clipped on a gown or sweater but it also is beautiful worn as a pendant, with a chain through the top of the clip - the way I have it on silk cord in one of my photos. (I found this wonderful old piece in England several years ago. The design and quality was so lovely, I have held onto it until now, as I was searching for the right antique diamonds to replace the missing pearls in the swaying line down the center of the piece. The current pearl drop is all original, as is the entire border and reverse. Only the 5 bezeled cushion shaped diamonds that sway down the center have been carefully selected, custom set and meticulously added to the piece.) Quite large, the pendant - dress clip measures approximately 1 15/16 x 5/8 of an inch, so nearly 2 inches long, including the pearl drop. (49 x 16 mm) It weighs an impressive 9 grams on my scale. At the top is the "fat" pear shaped mine cut diamond, surrounded by 8 small rose cut diamonds. The swaying line of 5 diamonds is suspended beneath the pear shaped stone, with graduating rose cut and mine cut diamonds set into the border. An additional 3 tiny sparkly rose cut diamonds are set into the fluted cap of the pearl drop. The clip back is silver with elegant pierced work. The diamonds have fabulous fire and brilliance, set off by the contrast against the old patina of the silver. Ranging in size, depending upon the placement of the diamonds within the design, they range from approximately 1 mm for the smallest rose cut diamonds to approximatley 5 x 4 mm for the largest diamond in the central line. The pear shaped diamond measures approximately 5 x 4 mm, as well. A few stones have some warmth to their color, and I see some small inclusions and a little wear under magnification. The milgrain on the border is all original and still quite crisp, so I have added milgrain to the bezeled diamonds in the graduated line drop, as well. Measuring approximately 8 mm wide, the pearl is a soft warm cream color, with a silvery green undertone. Its luster is lovely, and I see only slight wear with natural imperfections. I have not tested the pearl for origin. (I will also include the original line of pearls that includes some original and some old replacements. I suspect the older ones are natural pearls, but again, have not had them tested.) Nice and tight, the hinge of the clip operates well and will work to add the piece to a dress, gown or sweater and will also hold the piece shut to be worn as a pendant with the chain of your choice. (I recommend a sturdy chain, as this is a sizable piece with some heft)
