A large Victorian 14 karat yellow gold locket heart pendant. This lovely heart design features an openwork border with a scrolling floral pattern of leaves and flowers. The center of the puffy heart has beautiful engraved details. The back of the pendant is provided with a locket which opens and closes well. At no other time was the heart shape as popular as during the Victorian era. Queen Victoria was particularly fond of jewelry and owned numerous heart-shaped jewels, including a charm bracelet with a heart-shaped charm representing each of her children. This romantic movement, with its focus on emotion and sentimentality, was reflected in the jewelry of the time, with hearts being one of the favored motifs.
