Antique 14 Karat Gold Mourning Locket Pendant
About the Item
This antique Victorian mourning locket pendant was once worn close to someones heart. The locket pendant dates back to the 19th century and is created in 14 karat gold. The front and back of this oval-shaped pendant is beautifully engraved with ornaments while the side is embellished with scrolling foliage. Behind the glass plate hair work is placed as a remembrance of the deceased. The pendant comes without the chain.
Mourning jewelry were mostly worn in The Grand Victorian Era, between ca. 1861-1880. Saddens by the death of the Queen’s husband, Prince Albert, mourning became an art for the Victorians. Who designed black clothes and jewelry to be worn in the months following the death of a relatives. This mourning tradition was adopted in several countries, as well in the Netherlands.
The locket pendant is in good condition, one side of the gold surface has some small dents. The charm measures 25 mm in length including bail, width 16 mm and weighs 2.24 grams. Tested as 14 karat gold.
The pendant will be gift-wrapped in a black and gold jewelry box.
