Blue & Brown Sapphire Slice Pendant with Brown Diamond & Sapphire/Zircon Chain
About the Item
We love rough sapphires and use them frequently; their deep color, inclusions, streaks and other irregularities create beautiful and distinctive natural gemstones.
Here, two shimmery slices, both flat on the bottom with checkerboard faceting on top, are framed in 14 karat yellow gold to create this sexy, striking and unique* pendant by Eytan Brandes.
The slices are set in slightly puffy solid 14 karat gold triangular freeform frames.
The bottom piece of the pendant is accented with a flush-set, full-cut, earth-mind brown diamond, about 0.06 carat.
The handmade freeform bale is roomy enough to accommodate most chain hardware. We've paired it with a shimmery 16.5" beaded chain of 3.5mm brown zircon** and blue sapphires. Each bead is individually knotted, like a string of pearls. The closure is a 14 karat gold bayonet clasp with a figure 8 safety catch. This chain looks great with the pendant and is included, but removable so you can mix and match. If you would prefer the pendant alone, or if you would like a different type of chain, just let us know and we'll provide adjusted pricing and options.
The pendant is 2.5" long and weighs 12.7 grams. The gold weight of the pendant is 10 grams. The total necklace weight is 23.6 grams.

Goshenite is a variety of beryl -- basically aquamarine without color. (if anyone actually said "gosh" anymore...) By contrast, the diamond, bezel-set to float in the opening of Eytan's 18 karat gold shard, involves absolutely no hanky-panky. It's an earth-mined, natural and untreated stone weighing 0.04 carats -- a small but high quality sparkler (Eytan rates it G-H color and VS2 clarity). The hand-wrought pulled wire bale is roughly oval-shaped and oversized, since Eytan envisioned his pendant would be paired with beads (which generally require a bigger bale than a chain), but removable. (The sum of its parts has proved greater than the whole; we're still using bits torn off this monster, and the pieces -- little petals and flowers and leaves and stems -- always look great when they're separated from the mother ship, but when combined in one brooch: a garish mess!) The "stem" was actually a link from a very old (pre-1900), very fabulous but very fussy (and very prongy) diamond bracelet which Eytan resized for a customer, keeping a link as payment. The bottom diamond was badly damaged so rather than trying to match the top diamonds, Eytan replaced it with a nice sapphire.
